Here is something very special for those who support my work and the band the ‘Ultramagnetic  M.C’s’.

One of the greatest Underground Hip Hop acts of all time. Embarked on a European tour to mark 25 years since the release of their critically acclaimed album ‘Critical Beatdown’. 

I have a long history with this group.  In fact the first time I tried to interview them was when they first came to Birmingham City on tour.  In the late 90s when I started working on my Film ‘The Men & Their Music’.  I was introduced to Moe Love by the P-Brothers.  For a couple of years me and Moe spent many hours on the phone, playing each other breaks, beats, talking about music and other stuff.  In 2002 I made a trip to the USA, to start filming the project.  A little nervous as my memories of him was that he looked like the meanest person in hip hop.  In fact he’s one of the coolest.  As a surprise he took me to meet Ced Gee in Harlem and we shot a film. My memories of that meeting Ced wasn’t really into the current state of Hip Hop music, he was involved in other things.  Pursuing his love for Basket Ball. The shoot was very positive.  Ced left with fire in his belly, and I left with amazing footage which lead me to make the film on Paul C.

Returning to the UK I was introduced to Marc Davis from Chicago, who is die hard Ultras fan, so much so he made it his mission to reform the group.  Throughout that whole period I was here in the UK, being played the beats and tracks as they were being made.  Later Marc, TR and Moe he dropped the ‘Ultra Foundation’ Album. It was outstanding LP, possibly the worst hip hop cover of all time but the music was second to none.  Most of that should of been the ‘Best kept Secret’ LP.  I returned to the U.S and shot 2 of the videos for that Album plus a short film introducing TR Loves protege Fred Beanz.  Later I went onto produce their last single with new M.C, Fred Beanz.

The ironic thing is I will never forget going to Ourprice records in 1988 with Jason Coombes as he brought the cassette never thinking I would later work with the group.

Its not been a easy road for the group as you can imagine.  So ofcourse when they contacted me to let me know the tour was on, I had to make sure I got to do something with the group to capture this moment.  Although not a member of the band, I feel a part of their legacy.  Sadly i could not join them for the whole tour due to my work commitments.  I put this together for the group and the fans.  Imagine what I could of done being on the tour.  That would of been one hell of a film.  In the mean time enjoy this.  Look out for the future DJ MOE LOVE ‘DIGGIN IN THE TAPES LP’.  For that project I revamped the original ULTRA Logo.  This was a important and landmark moment for us all.  Filmed by Pritt Kalsi and his team, Andy Higgs and Jay King.  We are available to film / edit shows and events. Veteran hip-hop producer Diamond D has helped out with several of rap music’s most acclaimed LPs, including A Tribe Called Quest’s The Low End Theory and the Fugees’ The Score.

In 1992, he recorded his first solo album, the underground classic Stunts, Blunts & Hip-Hop (which was released as by Diamond & the Psychotic Neurotics). Although it never sold very many copies, it increased his status, and he worked with Illegal, House of Pain, KRS-One, and the Pharcyde during the mid-’90s. A host of top-flight rappers returned the favor for his sophomore album, Hatred, Passion & Infidelity, including Busta Rhymes, Phife Dawg (A Tribe Called Quest), and Pete Rock. – John Bush.

Recently Diamond has returned to his first love DJing. His Breakbeats 45′s only tour see’s Diamond going back to the early days of the 70s block party jams. When B-Boys danced to the sounds of classic Breakbeats being cut up on the ones and two’s. Authentic 45′s, none of this breakbeat mash up music that a lot of DJ’s are playing today. 2012 Legendary DJ and Producer Jazzy Jay visited the UK staying here with us for a month.  A break away from New York City. Jay chilled out in the city of Birmingham. For a long time Ive been working with Jay . He has fully supported the King of the Beats movement.

After many talks, and unforeseen situation arising Jay offered to really get on board with the project. The producer who produced producer, the first of that pioneering generation two own his own recording studio is a fully on board.

I heard this, this morning via DJ Too Tuff. This mix is from 1986. Reminds me why i used to be glued to radio listening to pirate radio shows, we craved to hear something new.

Although this is from 1986, this is the first time I heard it. Check out MC Mechanism, this guy is sick. Reminds me of LL – Mikey D. Great rhymes voice and delivery. Next month Along side 4orce and Andy Higgs we are heading out to see Too Tuff. Its been long long overdue. I firmly believe hes one of the most un-talked about Programmers from the Golden Era. Looking forward to meeting him and shooting some footage.

KOTB was invited to be involved with a very special project. We was chosen to join the UK Akai team to work on prototype of the MPC Renaisance.

We sat in on meetings and studio sessions with the new product that I can say in its infancy was highly disclosed. It was never shown in public. Everyone who saw it had to sign a release.

My self I was lucky. I think I was the only person never to sign one. for 1 week we was locked in a Dairy Studios over in Brixton as producers were invited to test it and give their opinion.

Anyhow. I filmed all the sessions for the American team. Having some time on my hands I freely put this video together which fell into the hands of the head of Akai. This was used as their first promo video for the project.

B-Boys, B-Girls, DJ’s, Graffiti Writers and Beat makers from all over the world attend this even that is UN-sponsored and unfunded. Last year i attended the event held in Torino. This time of the year be prepared it is hot over there. In 2009 whilst in NYC DJ Johnny Juice from the group Public Enemy alongside Long Island Pioneer DJ Bigg Higgs planned for me to shoot something very special.

For the first time in 17 years members of the group Leaders of the New School. Minus Busta Rhymes. Dinco D, Charlie Brown and Cutmonitor Milo sat down together and discussed their humble beginnings and music in general.

This is a must see for any LONS, Tribe Called Quest fan. This film first appeared on the original blog a few years ago. The significance of this film was that it acted as a turning point for all of us infact. It helped rebuild friendship, dialog which led to the clip below. Although I could not join the group for the moment below. I’m glad someone filmed it
