One of the greatest DJs of our Time DJ Mr Thing well known for being one of the most hardcore diggers takes on the challenge along side from New Jersey DJ Priority and Austrailian P Body. We see the return of two crews from the original film THE UNSUNG HEROES and former Creator member SI SPEX.. DJ DEVASTATE Producer of one of the most classic Records of this Genre. Demon Boyz Recognition. If you don't have the LP please search it out. To put things into perspective they toured with NWA. Thanks to myspace and DJ MR THING I was able to contact him. In fact i had been trying to find him whilst working on the DJ Supreme film THE TURNTABLE TRIXTERS. I cant even remember how we got onto the subject of King of the Beats but Devastate was really keen to take on this challenge. Diggin in the Crates is not a 90s thing. Its something that had been done from day one and Devastate had been part of the generation of DJs who long before samplers were around was cutting up these records that still today people are looking for. THE UNSUNG HEROES I had to get them back. when you see the original 1999-2000 film you cant argue the outstanding performance from this crew. Both Insite and Shiver have been long supporters of my work. Originally signed to Scenario Records who they have since parted with. The group has taken a back seat role producing a host of artists. What i love about these guys their passion and love for finding records. This is what they do every day. Insite has since set up a recording studio which is located in west London. Shiver can be found DJing in and around London. They are a group to defiantly keep your eyes on. SI SPEX This man is in my eyes one the most talented producers in the world. He like the P-Brothers has been like a mentor to me. He showed me so much stuff, give me so much advice. One half of that heavy weight producer crew THE CREATORS. Si Spex, is now going at it alone. As part of THE CREATORS he took part in the first film. His knowledge of records is second to none. When i first got to know him, it was before the first lp. Him and Julian used to venture to Birmingham to see Damion and Steve from Samebeat records. One reason i had to get Si Spex on this film was that people really need to see this man at work. what is most fascinating. Him alongside Julian and artists like Mark B introduced a lot of different records to producers states sides, records which really defined some of the trends in 90s hip hop. P BODY Straight from Australia, This is the beauty of myspace. searching through profiles i came across him. Amazing !!!. First thing that came to mind was the first BEATNUTS LP. Now when you see in the trailer 'be part of this movement' this is what I'm talking about. There are no boundaries, we share a love for searching for great sounds, beats loops to create these beats. I believe P Body has totally embraced and is everything that i call authentic good hip hop music. Its a real pleasure getting him on this film, please do check him out. DJ POGO He is Mr HIP HOP!. DJ POGO along side fellow En4cers Billy Biznizz and Cutmaster Swift have been what i call the backbone of British Hip Hop Culture. They have earned the respect of their piers, THE BAMBATTAS, THE GRAND WIZARD THEODORES & THE JAZZY JAYS. His collection of records, his knowledge of music its just too deep to go into. He's produced for groups and Artists like MONIE LOVE, MELLO, PLZ the list goes on, he's DJ' d for the who's who of MC's. Its nothing but straight down the line Hip Hop with DJ Pogo. He stands by his words, he is Zulu Nation! Ive known Pogo for some time and he never stops digging. making beats is something he just does. it was so important for me to get him on here, because i believed they way he would approach and take on this task would be very different to someone like the Unsung's and the Si spex's. All of them Bring nothing but authentic Hip Hop and share the same concepts but its their approach which i wanted to see. how they did it? one factor which defines us and makes us the artists we are is that thing called Soul. DJ MR THING If you have you heard any of DJ Mr Things mix CDs you will know that he is no joke. One of the greatest play out DJs in the world. well he's proved it DMC. Scratch Perverts. But he deeper than that. if you just think its about scratching then think again. I've known Mark for many years now, and we have been on many digging missions and it makes me sick how much knows. He just lives for digging, in fact i will say for him its an addiction. good or bad who cares.. he's something special. How can you have that many records and not get into producing. Mr thing has totally embraced this culture. For me He represents every thing that I'm trying to do with my work. Him and the P-Brothers, Authentic HARD BEATS! pump it in your Boom Box Hip Hop. Mark has been a strong supporter of my work. I have to say please do check out his page and if you can get your hands on any of his Anorak mix Cd series you will not be dissapointed. JOE MAXIMUS AKA Dean E James. Now king of the beats is also about creating a platform for new unknown artists. I met Dean back in the early to mid 90's. He was mad young then. But i got to say he really grasped the whole looking for samples digging in the crates thing. We used to go on digging missions and i got to say i was really impressed with all his finds. Dean has since left the midlands and now lives in Edinburgh. he contacted me about taking part in this project. i had to show some support for my man. He's got records in his crates that I'm still bugging him for. peep his tune Escape. you can see why i had to say yes to him DJ PRIORITY Again Searching through myspace i found DJ Priority. I have to say i was well impressed with his music. A very talented producer. And probably the youngest person on the film. Based in New Jersey Priority has DJ' d for groups like the Artifacts. He is involved in his own New Jersey Beat Battle. For me its so important to get a good mix of old and young on the film. We are hear to keep this culture alive and Priority is representing it right. forget these keyboard beats. For us its all about looking for those old records. I strongly Believe that we will be hearing a lot more from DJ Priority mark my words. KEY FIGURES AKA Pritt Kalsi the founder of KING OF THE BEATS. I had to show and prove that I'm not just someone that makes films. I am what i talk about. this is the only time you will ever see me one of these films. Some people say oh I'm stuck in the past but i just love those pumping beats. those horns. something that makes you stand in that b-boy stance. this has been me for the last 20 years. i hope i can continue to bring you more king of the beats. UNDERSTANDING I first heard about Understanding through my man Dr Butcher. He told me about a project he had been working on many years ago that he is planning to put out. Recorded in the Early 90's it features for one of the most amazing MC's. Deemo to his friends Understanding if you listen to his music now is one of the most refreshing MC out there today. His Flows are tight, he reminds me of large pro in his height. The energy and clarity with out standing delivery. I became an instant fan. If your looking for quality, maturity heart and soul hip hop. Understanding is an MC who delivers. When i asked Understanding to do the track to be honest i thought i was just going to get a freestyle, I was wrong. In my opinion my beat didn't do the man justice. iF ever there was a track that summed up this challenge and concept and aim the this has to be it. 'When my dude King Of The Beats approached me and asked me to get on this project I was mad excited !!! Here I was still fairly new on MySpace and someone from the across the ocean was reachin' out to me, sayin' they liked my style and showin' me love. I was honored that dude approached me and it was cool buildin' with dude on the phone as we discussed the state of hip-hop today and various other topics. When he sent me the beat and I heard that thick bass line and the horns with old school feel I knew I needed to come correct. When I finally finshed with it and sent it to him his response made it all worth while. I was even furthered honored when he said that his wife liked it too lol !!!
